English tutor who can facilitate focused study combined with an encouragement for personal expression that enlivens the learning experience - a strategist for success in GCSE and A level exams.

Introduction
I have supported literacy learning for 15 years. The support began in my home when my dyslexic daughter went to school and stopped learning. I began to look for supplementary methods to stimulate her ability to learn to read and to write. This research led to an MA in ’Literacy learning and Literacy Difficulties’ from UCL 2015. I now work in schools to support learning for mainstream and SEN students on a one-to-one and small group basis. I enjoy working with those who feel at ease with their studies and with those who might struggle to make connection with learning objectives. Formal, private tuition is a new area for me but my previous work, training and experience prepares me well for this role.

Approach
I fine-tune tutorials to the individual needs of my students. At the same time that I seek to personalise the learning experience I remain focused on meeting examination requirements. I approach examinations like a strategist: what are the core areas in any syllabus and how do these relate to past examination questions? This kind of analysis helps to reduce a potential flurry of information to a coherent and targeted toolset for a student to use to answer exam questions.

Background
Literature has been a main area of interest for me from my A levels onwards. I took a BA in English and Drama. I knew that I wanted to be a theatre designer but I also wanted to continue an academic study of literature. I followed the BA with a specialist design course and then worked as a theatre designer for twelve years. I really enjoyed the way that theatre was a meeting place for so many rich cultural aspects to life.
