About Kalina
I've been working with English learners since 2015 - and over the years I've brought something unique into the classroom: a journalist's instinct for conversation. My lessons aren't lectures - they're discussions. Lively, flexible, and driven by genuine curiosity about what you think, what you know, and what you want to say.
My experience with English goes well beyond teaching. I spent four years as a journalist, editor, and interviewer for a London-based media project, producing original content entirely in English. I've written for a private London school's educational blog, managed their social media, and led international teams of native English speakers on American IT projects. At university, I specialised in economic and political English, completing a course on American political rhetoric taught exclusively in English.
Since 2015 I've been working with students one-on-one across different ages and levels - helping them find motivation, break the language barrier, build fluency, and reach goals they once thought were out of reach.

I bring real-world professional experience, genuine curiosity, and a flexible approach to every lesson. My students don't just learn English - they start to feel at home in it.
My lessons are built around authentic content - YouTube videos, Instagram clips, movie scenes - matched to your interests and learning goals. Real English, from real life, not textbooks.
When I introduce a grammar topic or work on speaking skills, I find a video that illustrates it naturally in context. Then I craft tailored questions around it to spark genuine conversation and check understanding. If something doesn't click the first time, I find a new angle and explain it differently - I don't move on until it makes sense.
A typical lesson looks like this:
- We open with an authentic video clip tied to your level and interests
- Custom questions drive discussion and comprehension
- We break down grammar and vocabulary as it appears naturally in the content
- You practise speaking or writing using what we've just covered
- Clear, honest feedback throughout
What sets me apart is the breadth of real-world experience I bring to every lesson. I've worked as a journalist and editor for a London-based publication, led international teams of native speakers, and written professional content for British schools and American tech projects. I know how English actually works in professional and creative environments - and I bring that into the classroom.
