About Arlan

I am an A-level student currently studying at Reading Grammar School. I have worked as a voluntary assistant teaching primary school students for almost a year, which has given me experience working with students from younger years. I have built up a trust-based relationship with them that allows us to make the best use of the time available for study. Furthermore, I have recently tutored both of my younger siblings to prepare for and successfully pass entrance exams into local grammar schools (Reading School and Kendrick School). This experience gave me a greater grasp of the demands of the 11+ and 13+ CEM-style tests. Also, I have been mentoring struggling students from my school in GCSE Economics course and worked as an assistant swimming coach further improving my teaching skills.

About the lesson

1) To start, I give my student an 11+/13+ practice paper and see how they get on with it.

2) This helps me to identify where the student needs help and where they have any gaps in their knowledge.

3) By making sure my students understand specific subjects I help them address their academic problems.

4) I quiz them at the beginning and end of each lesson to understand how they have improved.

5) Each student receives individually-tailored lessons focused on addressing existing gaps, covering new topics and explaining best strategies for problem solving.

6) Appropriate level homework gives the student extra practice opportunities in their targeted area and provides them with revision resources.

7) I ask students regularly to work on 11+/13+ practice papers on a timer to monitor their overall progress and to give them exam training. After each such paper I give advice on their exam technique and reflect on their level of preparedness.
