About Julia
It can be quite daunting as a young person to be sat in a room with an adult that you do not know and be forced to do school work - I am very aware of this and have experience of being a tutee as well as a tutor! In the light of this, I try to make sessions as comfortable as possible. I would describe myself as a personable and warm person, and I enjoy the challenge of getting through to young people who may be reluctant to learn at first. Building this rapport I find profoundly rewarding. My own journey from ‘naughty student’ to A* pupil inspires me to take the place of teachers who sparked my passion for particular subjects and changed my academic life.

I can offer politics and philosophy tuition to an A-level standard as well as English literature/language and classics to a GCSE standard. I am happy to offer sessions between 1-2 hours. Due to the nature of the disciplines I teach, my lessons would usually include an exercise in essay structuring which we would then spend the rest of the session picking apart and improving. Once I find gaps in a student’s knowledge or confidence, it is then time to hone in on them. I find in my experience that this ritualistic method of practicing essay writing is the most effective way of producing bulletproof pieces of work. I will combine the subject knowledge of the topic with these skills in order to produce confident and passionate students. The age range that I typically teach is 11-18 years (but this is not absolute).
