About Daphne

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been teaching either privately or at a conservatoire for the last 12 years. When teaching very young children, I try to implement parts of the Suzuki method into my teaching, as it makes it easier for your children to learn violin.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

No.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I started my training at the McGill Conservatory of Music in Montreal, as a member of the Suzuki Method program. I then continued my studies in Athens, first with Yiannis Vatikiotis, and then with Vassilis Papas, with whom I got my violin diploma. I studied with Walter Reiter, at the Royal Academy of Music and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. I have participated in masterclasses with Bernhard Hartog and Grigori Zhislin in Athens, with Isaac Malkin in New York, Jeanne Lamon in Toronto, and Walter Reiter at the Dartington International Summer School. I have also studied with Margaret Faultless, Rachel Podger, Christopher Verrette, Julia Wedman and Adrian Butterfield.

I am an experienced teacher, and really enjoy teaching young children especially. I use elements of the Suzuki method when teaching children up to the age of 6, always using a personalised approach.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach violin to beginner and intermediate students, beginning at age 8 when teaching online.
I also teach modern Greek from complete beginner to advanced levels. For the past 4 years, I have also been tutoring KS1, KS2 and KS3 students in all subjects.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I hold an MA in Historical Performance from the Royal Academy of Music and taught at the Junior Royal Academy of Music. I also studied baroque violin at Trinity College of Music. I have a diploma in modern violin from the Orfeio Conservatoire of Music. I have also passed the DipABRSM in Performance, and the Grade 6 ABRSM exam in Theory. I taught violin at the Symphonic Conservatoire and the New Horizons Conservatoire, during the academic year 2007-08, both based in Athens, before moving to London. I have also taught violin privately for the last 12 years.

- How much do you charge?

Details of prices are listed above. Consultation lessons are half price.

- Where do you teach?

I currently only teach online.

- When are you available?

Please contact me for details. As I am a freelance musician, there will have to be some flexibility regarding the times of lessons, but I will make up any that are missed.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

As I am only teaching online, I will teach violin students aged 8 and above. It is possible to prepare students for the ABRSM Board or the Trinity/Guildhall exams.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can prepare students for the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) and Trinity/Guildhall exams.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I currently only tutor online. Lesson times are arranged in advance, and there is some flexibility if the time occasionally doesn't suit. Necessary material, homework and feedback is sent via email.
