About Prajat

Hi, I'm Prajat Arora, a guitar teacher and performing musician based in New Delhi. I have been teaching since 2013 and have worked with more than 1,000 students across a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and musical goals. Lessons are available both online and offline, including at my teaching studio and in-home sessions.

My musical training includes studies at the Delhi School of Music, and alongside teaching, I actively perform, compose, and record original music as guitarist and lead vocalist of the experimental rock duo Lady Mondegreen. This ongoing involvement in performance and songwriting brings a practical, creative perspective to every lesson.

I work with complete beginners, intermediate and advanced players, adult learners, hobbyists, and students preparing for Trinity and Rockschool examinations. Lessons are tailored to each student's goals and may include technique, rhythm, ear training, music theory, improvisation, songwriting, and performance skills.

Over the years, I have taught students from across India as well as internationally, including the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, the USA, Sweden, the UAE, Bahrain, and other parts of the world.

Whether your goal is to play your favourite songs, build a strong musical foundation, prepare for examinations, or simply enjoy the process of learning an instrument, lessons are designed to be structured, engaging, and aligned with your individual pace of learning.

I'd be happy to help you begin or continue your musical journey.

Lessons are built around the idea that learning guitar should go beyond memorising chords and songs. The goal is to develop a strong technical foundation while also building musicianship, creativity, and confidence with the instrument.

Depending on your goals, lessons may include guitar technique, rhythm, music theory, ear training, improvisation, songwriting, and musical expression. Theory is approached as a practical tool that helps students understand music more deeply, learn more efficiently, and develop greater creative freedom.

I encourage students to explore a variety of musical styles and approaches rather than becoming limited to a single genre. Whether you're interested in rock, pop, blues, classical, folk, jazz, fingerstyle guitar, or contemporary music, lessons are adapted to support your interests while strengthening core musical skills.

As an active performer and songwriter, I also help students who wish to sing while accompanying themselves on guitar — developing coordination, rhythm, and confidence through practical musical application.

The focus is always on meaningful progress, helping students become expressive, independent musicians who can continue learning long after the lesson ends.

  • Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

The subject that I'm into is Music and specifically guitar teaching. I was always involved in music since childhood. Back then I used to be more into vocals and was part of school choirs as well. Later, I picked up guitar when I entered college, mainly to provide a background harmony to what I was singing. But the instrument really grew on me, so much so that I had to quit being a dentist and shift my focus onto music altogether.
  • What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

I wouldn't say there was anybody that motivated me to teach other than the circumstances I was in. I mean after quitting a profession like Dentistry I had to find a way to support myself financially. The only thing I knew something about was guitar and so it occurred to me that I should tr teaching. And I am really glad that I did so.
  • How does your work help society?

Well, music is something that can help anybody in any phase or walks of their lives. I mean who doesnt listen to some or the other kind of music. Whether its a moment of happiness or utter distress, music is always there with you. Being able to not only be a listener but an active participant in the process of music generation acts as a therapy in itself. There are numerous studies explaining the benefits of music on the brain, in curing stress, health issues and general well being of an individual. I am just glad to be a part of this phenomenon and it makes me happy to share whatever music has given to me with others.
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

I think I cant pinpoint it to one person. There have been many people who have acted as a source of inspiration in my life whether it be people from family or friends, or some of the teachers I have had, or well renowned musicians, writers, directors or even actors.
  • Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

In my pass time I would pick up a good book that I came across, maybe watch a movie, or go out and catch up with a friend.
  • Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

Nothing specific comes to my mind to be honest. But the best part about teaching is that I get to meet so many different and interesting people from all backgrounds and professions. This always keeps it really interesting for me.
