About Bethan
I have an undergraduate degree in English Literature from Smith College and a master's in education from Harvard Graduate School of Education. I taught in a high school north of Boston for more than a decade, covering a wide range of classes, from supporting basic literacy skills through A.P. English Literature. When teaching, I worked to make sure my students felt they could ask questions and get additional support if they needed; teachers and students are an educational team. I am currently working towards a second master's degree, so I understand the stresses and pressures of being a student.

Tutoring gives me the chance to work one-on-one with students in a way classroom instruction does not. I want to get to know you and understand what is causing your reading and writing stress. Getting a sense of what is causing you to feel unsuccessful is key to helping me figure out how to help you make progress. I ask a lot of questions!
I like to see assignments and drafts, so I am a big user of the Google suit, especially Google Docs as it lets me see your writing and work with you directly on the page. This is also an efficient way to make use of out time together.
As a teacher for many years, I know that getting to know you and your learning style is fundamental to finding ways to make you successful regardless of level or ability in ELA.
