About Chris

I graduated from York University in 2004 with a B.A. in Business and Society. From there, I went straight to Taiwan to teach ESL in a language school for a year. The plan was to travel and study Mandarin before coming back to Canada to pursue a career in business.

My plans changed when I met my wife in Taiwan and my interest in education grew into a passion. There are precious few fields of work where one can have a real positive effect on the lives of others, and as a teacher, this notion that what we're doing has the potential to deeply impact the lives of our students is what gives my life a sense of meaning and fulfillment.

From 2004 to 2015, I taught in language schools in Taipei. For younger learners, the focus was on phonics, reading, and basic writing skills. For more advanced students, essay writing and SAT preparation were the focus of my lessons.

In 2015, I landed a position at one of the top international schools in Taiwan - Kang Chiao International School. Here, we taught students from all around the world using an American curriculum. At this school, roughly half of the day was spent learning courses in Mandarin, and the other half was spent learning in English. I was tasked with teaching English Language Arts to students grade 1 to 6. Most of the students there were native speakers of English, and with the facilities, resources, and support from staff and parents, we accomplished amazing things. My own two children also attended this school, and my wife taught there as well.

In my time in Taiwan, I was also involved in a number of other related activities.

I was a freelance writer for publishing companies that would develop curriculum for learners of English. Additionally, I worked to edit documents for the local government, and write articles for a publication that was geared towards businesspeople.

I tutored children of all ages, from kindergarten to high school, to help them improve in whatever area they needed to work on, such as essay writing, SAT prep, reading, or phonics.

After my father passed away in 2022, I decided that it was time to move back to Canada to take care of my mother and to give my two children a better work-life balance, and that's what brought me to Chatham-Kent in July of 2023.

About the lesson

The principle philosophy behind my lessons is that learning should be fun. If a student is enjoying the process, they will develop their own passion and motivation.

I craft lessons to meet the individual needs of my students. In the trial lesson, we will work together to assess your current level of ability, establish a clear set of goals, and outline a strategy for reaching those goals.
