About Anna

Hello, I’m Anna.
I’m a native Greek tutor from Corfu with 25 years of private teaching experience, and I have lived and worked right here in England for over two decades.
My background is in languages and communication. I studied French at the French Institute, continued with French and Italian at the Open University (including modules in linguistics), and completed a TEFL certification.
To help me understand how different minds process language, I also completed personal studies in adult learning, Health and Social Care, and awareness courses in Dyslexia, Autism, SEN, and speech development. I also hold diplomas in Anger Management, Life Coaching, and Proofreading—the latter refined through my work translating books from Greek to English.
I never worked professionally in those fields or offered them as standalone services. I studied them purely to bring more insight, calmness, and absolute clarity into my language lessons. It helps me prepare notes that avoid heavy academic jargon and allows me to anticipate exactly where confusion might occur.
My Approach to Greek
Over the last 25 years, I’ve worked with children, teenagers, and adults of every background, level, and personality. This long experience has given me a natural sense of how people learn and what makes them feel comfortable. I don’t use stiff scripts or one-size-fits-all methods—I adjust every lesson to the person in front of me in a simple, patient, and human way.
Because I live my daily life between both English and Greek, I explain the language in clear, everyday English. My goal is to make Greek feel approachable, logical, and manageable, especially for adult beginners who want to build a proper foundation right from the start.
Greek is not just a set of rules; it’s a living language full of humour, rhythm, and everyday life. In our lessons, we take things step by step, focusing on real understanding rather than memorising phrases. Starting from scratch or rebuilding a foundation that never felt solid, we work at a calm pace that suits your real life.
Every learner brings their own story, habits, and way of thinking, and I am here to meet you exactly where you are, help you settle into the language, and guide you with clarity and patience—without pressure, without a rush, and without the “tourist Greek” shortcuts that lead nowhere.

Teaching Style & Who I Work With
I work with learners who want real Greek—the language as people actually speak it, with all its humour, rhythm, warmth, worries, and everyday life. Many of my students are curious not only about words, but about how Greeks greet each other, how they behave, how they celebrate, how they complain, and how they navigate life. Greece is not just Mykonos, Santorini, sun and sea. Those things belong in brochures. Real Greece is the people, the conversations, the small habits, the anxieties, the kindness, and the imperfections—and we talk about all of that in our lessons.

I also work with learners who want to start properly. Some arrive full of enthusiasm for Greek music and want to translate slang lyrics before learning the basics. Here, we slow things down. We begin with the foundation—the alphabet, simple patterns, everyday verbs like είμαι (to be) and έχω (to have) —and build from there. No jumping ahead, no shortcuts, and no skipping the essential steps.

My lessons suit learners who enjoy a calm, human space. We talk, we laugh, and we treat mistakes lightly because they genuinely help you understand how Greek works. Everything we use in the lesson is resource material I prepare myself—notes, examples, small exercises, slides, and flashcards—all based on what we cover together. Nothing is copy-paste, and nothing comes from random, generic worksheets. Your learning grows entirely from your own progress.

We work through Google Meet and Google Drive, using shared documents, Google Slides, and simple flashcards. This keeps everything organised, accessible, and personal to you, and it allows you to study independently without feeling lost.
* I don’t teach rushed lessons.
* I don’t teach shortcuts.
* I don’t teach phrase-book Greek.

I teach learners who want understanding, curiosity, small steps, and a lesson that feels warm, human, and connected to real life in Greece—not just the tourist version.

Trial Lesson
The trial lesson is a relaxed conversation where we get to know each other. There is no test, no pressure, and nothing formal. We simply talk about your reasons for learning Greek, your experiences so far, and what kind of lesson setup helps you feel comfortable.

After 25 years of working with learners from many different backgrounds, lifestyles, and personalities, I’ve developed a natural sense of how someone approaches a new language. A simple chit-chat is often enough for me to understand your level, your needs, and the pace that suits you. There is no evaluation in the school sense—just a calm conversation that gives me the insight I need to guide you properly.

If you’re curious about everyday Greek life, we can talk about that too: how people speak, greet, behave, celebrate, complain, and navigate the ups and downs of living in Greece. Many learners find this part just as meaningful as the language itself.

By the end of our conversation, you’ll know whether this approach feels right for you. There is no obligation to continue; it’s simply a chance to see whether the atmosphere suits your way of learning.

Regarding the Free Trial Lesson
The introductory session is offered in good faith. It is simply a chance for us to talk, discuss what you want to achieve, and see if my style matches how you learn best.

Because my timetable is carefully managed, I kindly ask that you only request a trial session if you are genuinely looking to start regular, ongoing lessons. This free hour is dedicated to building a real relationship with future students, rather than for those who are casually shopping around.

Thank you for respecting my time and experience, just as I will always respect your commitment to learning.

  • Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

    I am a Greek native speaker.
  • Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

    Emblematic representatives of the language's culture are Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle; Ancient ruins and monuments such as Acropolis.
  • Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

    I love the sincere, friendly approach and hospitality of Greek culture.
  • Why does speaking this language matter to you?

    It's part of my heritage and my culture.
  • What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

    The main difficulty in learning this language is the articles and the way they are used. What can help the process of learning is breaking down and explaining the way the articles change in agreement with the nouns, adjectives, and adverbs. Lots of practice activities, listening to real-life conversations and patience.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

    One of the day-to-day colloquial expressions is: "Τα πήρα στο κρανίο" which in free translation means "I took them in the skull". We use this expression when we want to show the extension of our anger. It means that I am very very angry.
  • How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

    Travelling into different parts of the country always amazes me when I interact with the locals and learn about the local dialects.
  • What makes you a Superprof in language?

    My fifteen years of tutoring experience, my love for teaching the language to people who are interested in learning it, my patience in breaking down and explaining rules and grammar structures, the knowledge of the various cultures and mentalities that I can relate to, the knowledge of a couple of other European languages which help me explaining Greek to my students, my approach to each individual adopting to their personality, age and way of learning.
