About Joshua
I have 5 years of experience as a math tutor for Palomar Community College, Mathnasium learning center, and Cal State San Marcos combined. I am fairly pragmatic and down to earth. I have high standards for my students, but I provide a great deal of support, encouragement, and guidance when needed as well.

I employ a Socratic method of instruction, essentially asking the student questions to motivate them to think of their own solution. I use Direct instruction where I teach the student prerequisite knowledge or skills necessary to solve the problem with a little theory behind what's being done. I will give plenty of examples when necessary and finally solve problems for the students when all else fails, yet I will always insist that the student employ their own reasoning when attempting to prove something or solve a problem. There is only one way to learn mathematics and that is through doing it.
