About Philip

I early retired from 10+ years as an electrical engineer and 10+ years as a middle and high school technology and math teacher to be closer and more available to family. But I love to teach and would like to do it forever. I have a BS and MS in electrical engineering, from Case Western Reserve University and Stanford University, respectively. I started tutoring when I was a freshman in college, did pedagogy coursework towards a Master's in Teaching at USC, and taught at an international school for 14 years.

About the lesson

I would like to help you learn high school math, algebra to calculus! I am intimately familiar with the IB curriculum. I believe my superpower is being able to connect math concepts, which are very abstract, to your world- I do this by starting with a reference example which is intuitive to you and use it to explain difficult points. I will customize my approach to your algebra skill level and desired or allowed use of the graphing calculator, if any.

Nicholas always provides me with materials from his class beforehand that we will use to guide out lesson. He would benefit from practicing his skills by putting himself on the spot and asking himself past study guide questions in a random order. Nicholas has a great attitude and I enjoyed working with him.
