About Tessa
I’m a passionate guitar tutor with over 11 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Contemporary Music, majoring in guitar. I love composing and arranging music for solo guitar and ensembles. My goal is to help students discover their musical voice while building strong technical skills. I teach students of all levels—from school learners and hobbyists to professionals aiming for advanced mastery. My lessons focus on scales, modes, rhythm training, songwriting, and stage performance. I emphasize a supportive and engaging approach, tailored to each student’s goals. I have helped students progress from intermediate to advanced levels, including those preparing for professional work. My teaching combines practical exercises, creative exploration, and real-world performance skills. I make learning music enjoyable, structured, and meaningful. Whether you want to excel technically, compose your own pieces, or perform confidently on stage, I guide you every step of the way. My teaching approach focuses on building a strong foundation while nurturing creativity. I help students of all levels, from beginners to advanced players, grow their skills confidently. Lessons begin with understanding rhythm, groove, and tempo control, which are key to playing any style of music.
I emphasize practical exercises that make students comfortable with blues, funk, folk, and contemporary styles. Finger positioning, strumming techniques, and chord transitions are taught step by step. I also guide students in melody creation, improvisation, and adapting songs to different genres.
I encourage rhythm practice with metronomes and backing tracks to develop timing and consistency. Groove development is an essential part of lessons, helping students play with feel and confidence. We explore techniques for acoustic and electric guitars, including chord voicings and picking patterns.
Beyond technique, I support students in leading music and playing in groups or solo settings. My approach fosters both skill and passion for the guitar. Lessons are interactive, engaging, and tailored to each student’s goals. I aim for students to not just play, but truly enjoy and express themselves through music.
