19 years NZ Yr 9 to 13 maths classroom experience and 6 years tutoring. An absolute believer in the value of maths, yes even algebra, in our modern lives. I thoroughly enjoy teaching this subject.

About Joe
The math I learned at high school, Mt Albert Grammar in Auckland set me on a path to a very fulfilling life. I trained in Land Surveying at Otago Uni, then spent 10 years traveling and working overseas. Back in NZ I found surveyors did less of the math, more consulting with property developers. I retrained at Waikato Uni, then spent 19 years in a classroom, then retired in 2019. I’ve just turned 65 this year. Now do bits and pieces, some relief teaching, some tutoring, drive the school bus, drive a truck in the kiwifruit season, help out at the local food bank. In my spare time I enjoy whitewater kayaking, (also teach kayaking) and bikepacking.

I can teach any level from the absolutely lost and confused to the aiming high in year 13 calculus. There’s lots of tricks and shortcuts, but for learning that lasts, you need to be prepared to understand the why and how and to put in some practice. I’m also familiar with the Casio graphics calculator used in most NZ classrooms and exam rooms.
