About Randy
Pedaling technique and hand independence remain central to how I guide you, much like the way I balance classical repertoire with jazz improvisation. Sight transposition often feels like a puzzle, but we work through it until the mechanics become second nature for your fingers. My students range from those tackling intense college auditions to adults finding their voice on the keys for the first time.
Accompanying skills and ear training provide the foundation for everything else we do together during our time at the bench. When we integrate grade exam prep, such as ABRSM or Trinity requirements, I ensure that dynamics and expression are never sacrificed for technical accuracy. I look forward to hearing your music take shape with poetic precision.

Why should music theory remain a dry subject when it informs every note you strike on the piano? Connecting the architecture of a composition to its physical execution allows us to treat theory as inseparable from performance from Grade 3 onward.
This rigorous approach is rooted in my BMus training at the Curtis Institute of Music. Studying at this level requires attention to detail, so I provide a 6.0-minute recorded playback of each session for you to review at home.
This allows you to revisit our specific technical work on phrasing or fingerings throughout the week between our meetings. Understanding the logic behind the score is the most direct path to a musical performance that resonates. May your practice be as thoughtful as the music itself.
