About Andrew
I am a current high school physics and engineering teacher with more than 30 years of experience teaching in the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) system. Throughout my career, I have worked with students at the on-level, honors, and AP levels, helping them strengthen both their academic performance and confidence in challenging STEM courses.
Many of my former students have gone on to attend highly selective universities, including Princeton University, Stanford University, Yale University, and Cornell University. My school also consistently sends a strong number of students into the engineering program at the University of Maryland, one of the most respected public engineering programs in the country.
I specialize in helping students who may feel stuck, overwhelmed, or behind in physics or engineering classes. I am comfortable working with students who have accommodations and understand the importance of adjusting instruction, pacing, and problem-solving strategies to meet individual learning needs. My goal is not only to improve grades, but also to help students develop the confidence and analytical thinking skills needed for long-term success.

I believe students learn physics and engineering best when concepts are connected to real-world situations instead of simply memorizing formulas. My tutoring focuses on helping high school students build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and fill in missing foundational gaps that may be making current coursework more difficult.
I tailor lessons to each student’s needs. Some sessions focus on homework help and preparing for quizzes or tests, while others focus on rebuilding core concepts and improving long-term understanding. I use guided examples, diagrams, step-by-step problem solving, and questioning techniques that encourage students to think independently rather than just copy answers.
A typical session may include reviewing current class material, identifying misconceptions or weak areas, practicing similar problems together, and developing strategies students can apply on their own in class. I encourage students to ask questions freely and work at a pace that balances support with accountability.
What sets me apart is more than 25 years of classroom experience teaching physics and engineering courses to a wide range of learners, including on-level, honors, and AP students. As a current high school physics and engineering teacher, I understand both the academic content and the challenges students face in balancing workload, organization, and problem-solving demands. My experience with Project Lead The Way (PLTW) engineering courses also allows me to support students in Principles of Engineering, Introduction to Engineering Design, and related engineering pathways.
My lessons are designed for high school students taking physics or engineering courses at the on-level, honors, or AP level, including students who need remediation, enrichment, or structured homework support.
