About Emma

I have a first-class degree in English with Creative Writing from the University of Nottingham. Whilst at school, I achieved an A* in English Literature and Language at GCSE and have an excellent understanding of the GCSE AQA syllabus. I also work as a professional playwright and won 'Best New Play' at the UK Theatre Awards 2025 for my dark-comedy 'Flumps' at The Mercury Theatre in Colchester, Essex.

About the lesson

I teach depending on how each student works best; I always ask my students what kind of learner they are (visual/aural/verbal/physical) because this enables the adaptation of my lessons to suit their learning. Sometimes I teach specific skills if the pupil is struggling with their writing; however, if they are preparing for an exam, I usually focus on exam technique and content. I have 10 years experience with the AQA exam board and teach literature and language. I support students who are struggling as well as those wishing to excel.

Perfect! Good Experience!
Emma is a very talented and knowledgeable tutor and over the past 12 months has taught both our sons aged 15 and 12. Firstly in preparation for our eldest sons English GCSE and recently during the Covid lockdown period. She is patient and supportive and was extremely prepared which impressed us. She keeps her lessons effective, engaging and fun. Our sons were able to remain focused throughout the lessons. Emma is pleasure to work with and definitely a class act.

Hi, Thank you for taking a look at my profile! I tutor students online at a rate of £45 an hour; this covers an hour's lesson, a bespoke lesson plan made by me and marking of any essays or homework (1 per week max). I always provide value for money to my students and support them wherever possible - I plan every hourly lesson I take and you will receive a copy of this plan so that you can look at what we are covering. I also provide a list of topics when sending my invoice at the end of every month. I set homework if desired and incorporate written and verbal feedback into the sessions. I offer a free 15-minute introduction for parents and students to ask any questions about how the session works as well as discuss learning preferences and target grades.
