About Keegan
Kia ora! I’m Keegan, a Year 9 student at Selwyn College with a strong passion for mathematics and learning. I enjoy challenging myself academically and finding ways to make difficult concepts easier to understand.
I have a strong academic record, including Dux of Ellerslie School (2025) and Distinction in Otago Math Problem Solving (2026), and I’m always looking to challenge myself beyond the standard curriculum. My goal is not simply to help students get the right answer, but to help them understand why the answer is correct and develop skills they can use independently.

My approach is centred around understanding rather than memorising. I break difficult concepts into manageable steps, explain ideas in different ways when needed, and work through examples together before encouraging students to try questions independently. I also like to challenge students with harder problems once they are comfortable with the fundamentals.
Lessons are typically 45-60 minutes, depending on the student’s needs. We can focus on schoolwork, homework, upcoming assessments, specific topics, or simply building stronger mathematical foundations.
As a Year 9 student, I understand the transition into secondary-school mathematics and the challenges that can come with learning new concepts. I aim to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and improving at their own pace.
Lessons are suitable for students in Year 9 and below, including students who want extra support with their schoolwork or students who are looking for additional mathematical challenges.
