About Claire
Hello!!! I’m Mrs Maher. I have been teaching for the past 6 years, and feel very passionate about writing. At the beginning of every year, I ask my pupils ‘Who likes writing?’ I then ask again at the end of every year, and there is always a huge shift in the number of hands going up! In a positive way too. I make writing fun and captivating. I’ll explore what interests you; what you like and enjoy. We can look at specific skills you might be finding challenging at school. I’m confident there is a way I can model how to use these skills with ease. What genre do you enjoy writing? Do you like to read or watch movies? I can’t wait to find out and inspire you to showcase these in your writing.

For the past 6 years I have been a primary school teacher working with a variety of young people. I specialise in teaching Year 6 and have 5 years' experience of this. Having a passion for English, I decided to become a moderator last year. This means that I work with other schools and facilitate training in regards to writing. I believe in making writing fun. No child will want to write something unless they feel enthused and passionate about it. There are many grammatical skills children need to learn in preparation for the end of Year 6. I can teach these in a simplistic way without overcomplicating, which can often lead to the working memory becoming overwhelmed. Revisiting learning is paramount to ensure children remember, so I will make sure to do this at the beginning of every session to keep learning consistent.
