About Ruth

I am a Year 2 Medicine student studying in University now, and graduated from Junior College in 2024.
Before I started tutoring, I had already begun teaching, engaging in peer support leader roles to teach Chemistry to academically weaker students.
A lot of the time, students lack the confidence when they are attempting questions. I hope to instill this confidence in my students, as well as allowing them to develop interest in a subject that may seem daunting or boring to them. I always encourage my students to ask as many questions as needed, because this is how you learn quickly!
I am always open and do ask parents/students for any feedback regarding lesson style/pace so that I can cater to your needs!

About the lesson

Depending on the student's weaknesses/ability, I usually run through the topic learned recently in school.
I then go through worked examples for questions which test the important concepts (while prompting the student to try to answer along the way), before progressing to letting the student try a question by him/herself.
This will then lead to more in-depth questions to be given as homework, and will then be gone through in class for the next lesson.

I do have my own questions/exercises as well as notes developed for Pure Chemistry. I provide lesson materials as well - but if the student has a request to use his/her own materials I am fine with it too.

Typical length of a lesson is usually either 1.5h or 2h. It can be done once or twice a week.

I have taught Pure Chemistry to Sec 4 students preparing for O levels the past 1.5-2 years. My student last year was able to achieve an A for Pure Chemistry during her O Levels. My students this year have yet to take O Levels.

I am well versed with the Pure Chemistry O Level syllabus, and have sufficient knowledge to teach it, having scored A for my H2 Chemistry for A Levels and done a bit of Chemistry Olympiad in Junior College.
As a Year 2 Medicine student studying in University now, I frequently deal with Chemistry concepts which help to reinforce my knowledge as well.
