About Chas

My name is Charles (Chas) Holloway. I’m an American writer, publisher and public speaker. I’m the creator of Free World Theory, and I’m noted for developing fundamental scientific concepts in that field.

I’ve been a professional writer since 1984, and I’ve taught story writing in seminars and private lessons for decades.

I have worked on projects with notable artists such as Theodore Sturgeon, George Clayton Johnson, Clive Barker, William F. Nolan, Danny Simon, John Truby, David Valdes, Michael Shermer, even Weird Al Yankovich. (Look them up!)

Currently, I’m write and produce four podcasts — Free World Theory, a scientific documentary; Stringers, a 4-part dramatic series; Thinkopolis, a collection of newspaper style columns for the podcast age; and Bluegrass Legends, a country music magazine show. All are available on Spotify, Apple, and other major podcast platforms.

I’ve been a professional writer since 1984, and teach writing in private lessons, group lessons and seiminars. After decades, I’ve discoverd it’s ALWAYS the same problem holding writers back — they don’t understand story structure.

Knowing how to build an interesting STORY is the single most important skill a writer must have.

Compare a story to a skyscraper. Story structure is like the steel skeleton of the building. The dialogue, action, jokes, prosody, versimilitude, description — which is what most writers focus on — are more like the window dressing.

The difference between an amature and a professional is that a professional knows what’s important.

I will teach you how to build a story. I will explain the principles of story construction, and make clear how those principles apply to the project you’re working on. I will save you YEARS of frustration by giving you a deep understanding of how to build a story. If you are serious about writing, please contact me.

Are You a Writer?

Are you working on a novel, a screenplay, or short story? Maybe a podcast? Thousands of people are, and every one of them has the same problem — how do you get noticed? How do you turn your story into the one that editors, publishers and audiences crave?

You must have strong story telling skills. You need to know how to give your stories the depth of interest that publishers cry for and audiences demand.

Writing Takes Organization

When writing, there are only two things you can do. You can bull-it-through, or you can outline. That’s it. No other possibilities.

Most fiction writers try to bull-it-through because they have limited knowledge of how story construction works. They try to find structure intuitively — and it gets them into trouble. They either can’t attain the sophistication they initially hoped for, or their stories simply fall apart.

Good writing takes planning. But you have to know WHAT to plan. Good writing takes clear thinking. But you have to know how to think in story construction terms. I give you the info you need in accelerated lessons. I give you the skills to write great stories.

Here’s Just a Few Of the Things You’ll Discover

What “story” is, and what it is not.

Common story mistakes that cause writers to fail and how to avoid them.

The nine essential steps of every dramatic story.

How to recognize a good idea (premise) and develop a theme.

Three essential techniques to develop middle interest.

Horizontal vs. vertical writing and how to handle each.

How to transcend formulaic patterns.

How to create an emotional bond with an audience.

Controlling pace and forward momentum.

How to efficiently develop multi-dimensional characters.

The five possible kinds of conflict.

The three types of hero and the story forms that support them.

And much, much more.…

Get the Skills to Compete in Todays World!

Audiences today are the most sophisticated in history. They know when a story is weak.

If you want to successfully achieve the level of writing audiences desire, you have to know which ideas build your story, and which ideas don’t.

Gut instinct won’t do it. It’s a negligent, inefficient, slow, trial-and-error process. Instinct won’t give you the edge you need. Don’t hide from the fundamental principles of story construction, discover them head-on. You will save yourself YEARS of frustration by getting this information now in accelerated classes.

Don’t Settle for Obsolete Ideas!

What I teach is NOT another rehash of Aristotle’s Poetics, or of tired-out “Act One, Two, Three” structure. Those are obsolete paradigms for decades gone by. They cannot give you the sophistication you need to create engaging stories for today’s world.

I teach modern, ground-breaking principles that give you the state-of-the-art control you need to crteate novels, short stories, screenplays, teleplays, stage or radio plays, biographies or autobiographies, for today’s audiences.

Whether you are a beginner or have several publications to your name, I GUARANTEE your concept of writing will profoundly improve.
