About S B

Editor with over 25 years' experience writing and editing for a leading English newspaper and two leading English magazines. Have taught postgraduate students of management and journalism and mentored young people. My published work, journalistic and creative, is on a wide range of topics, and is based on my extensive reading in literature, poetry, science, psychology, and contemporary writing.

About the lesson

My classes are based on writing assignments, beginning with passages as short as 100-150 words and gradually building up to full-fledged pieces as long as 500-1,000 words. This is because writing can only be learnt by writing, not by talking about writing, just as swimming or skipping rope can only be learnt by swimming or skipping rope, not just by talking about those activities or watching others perform those activities.

I introduce students to:
exercises that will help them find and build on ideas;
grids and templates that will help them make connections and think originally;
writing/editing processes that will help them produce polished final drafts.

Much of the teaching will be online (via email and Skype), with face-to-face consultations, if necessary, to create a personalized curriculum based on the student's needs.

I also offer: a) vocabulary improvement packages b) practical lessons in English grammar and usage c) lessons in writing as life skill for communication, life-long creativity, and self-improvement.

I am open to teaching school students of Class VIII-Class XII, college students, management professionals, and anyone looking to improve their writing for communication, for thinking through problems, and for tapping their innate creativity.
