About Smriehl

Hi, I'm Sarah Riehl – Writing Coach, Essay Specialist, and Literature Lover With over 20 years of experience as a secondary English teacher, I’ve had the joy of helping students discover the power of their voice through writing. I specialize in teaching all forms of writing—narrative, argumentative, and informational—and I especially love guiding students through the college admissions essay process. One of my favorite offerings is a Five-Hour College Essay Intensive, where I help students move from uncertainty to confidence. Whether you're just getting started or stuck in the middle of a draft, I walk you through brainstorming, outlining, writing, and refining until you’ve got a compelling, authentic essay you’re proud to submit. I hold Master’s degrees in both English and Education, and my teaching background spans everything from British Literature and Writing & Composition to Creative Writing, Theatre Studies, and Film Studies. My approach is student-centered and skills-based—I’m all about giving you the tools and strategies you need to become a more confident, capable communicator. I believe that great writing starts with great thinking, so I focus on helping students build critical thinking skills as we work through the writing process together. I also design all my lessons with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in mind, making sure they’re engaging, accessible, and tailored to your individual learning style.
