About Julie
With 15 years of teaching experience across middle and high school levels, I offer a deep understanding of student literacy development. For the past three years, I have served as a solo middle school ELA teacher, looping with my students across multiple grades to foster long-term growth. Having also taught 9th and 12th-grade English, I know exactly what skills students need to master to transition smoothly into high school and succeed at the college-prep level. As a mother of two and a dedicated educator, my approach anchors reading and writing instruction in rich novel studies that turn students into critical thinkers.

Literacy isn’t just about decoding words it’s about discovering worlds. I reject lecture heavy teaching in favor of inquiry based learning and deep thematic analysis.
The Socratic Method: Guiding students with open-ended questions to discover insights on their own.
Mentor Texts: Evaluating powerful written passages to learn grammar, syntax, and style from the pros.
Scaffolded Writing: Breaking complex writing assignments into manageable, stress-free steps.
A Typical Lesson Plan (60 Minutes)
Every session is structured to balance active discussion with skill application:
00–10 mins | The Hook & Check-in: A quick, engaging writing prompt or a review of a pivotal quote from the current chapter to get the wheels turning.
10–30 mins | Deep-Dive Novel Study: Active reading and discussion focused on character development, thematic elements, or historical context.
30–50 mins | Targeted Skill Application: Translating our reading insights into practical skills. This might involve drafting a thesis statement, analyzing a specific literary device, or practicing a targeted grammar mechanic.
50–60 mins | Synthesis & Next Steps: A quick wrap-up where the student summarizes their big takeaway for the day and we outline independent reading or writing goals before the next session.
