About Alissa
Most of my students call me Ms. Atwood or Ms. A. I attended Weber State University in Utah and received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Spanish. I also received my Master's Degree from Arizona State University in Special Education (Mild-Moderate Disabilities). I was an Elementary School Teacher for 6 years. I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade (all subject areas). My last two years of teaching were as a Resource Special Education Teacher for all grade levels Kindergarten - 6th grade. I supported students inside their general education classroom as well as inside the special education classroom dependent on their individualized education plan. As a Resource Teacher, I taught Math Problem Solving, Math Calculation, Basic Reading, Reading Fluency and Comprehension, Writing, Workplace Skills, and Social Emotional Learning. Most of my teaching has been at Title 1 Charter Schools or dual language Public Schools. I am somewhat fluent in Spanish and can tutor in Spanish at an Elementary Level. I look forward to helping you grow into the best version of yourself :)

My lessons are very interactive, engaging, and use a variety of modalities to meet your individual needs. The subjects I focus on teaching are all areas of English Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Phonics, Grammar), Math, and social emotional skills. Through teaching a range of students with various academic needs I have learned that it's not just about what is being taught but how it is being taught. What sets me apart from other tutors is my ability to connect with the youth and incorporate their interests into learning.
