About Louis

I grew up in York and was used to being slowest and bottom of my class. Then I turned it completely around come my GCSE’s and I excelled in every subject, A-levels I did 7 and got good and great grades. I also managed to get to the 4th ranked University in the UK for Biochemistry in 2015. I always loved maths, then fell in love with science altogether and took on many interests. I learn all the time, in my personal time I read and practice: German, SQL, Python, R, MatLab, Chemistry, Biology, Human Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Electronics and hacking (white hat don’t worry). I have learned some of the hardest modules and overcome some of the trickiest concepts. I learn everyday so I can better understand and portray what I know to others in an easy-to-understand way. I am writing my own fictional books too! The biggest obstacle in trying to achieve a new goal is oneself. I help inspire my students to re-think themselves to see themselves in a more positive and realistic light. To help them understand that failure is not a final destination, but the bridge that will help them obtain their most ambitious dreams. I have done this myself, having faced failure many times I learned how to improve on what I did wrong last time. It has helped me to: start a shop in school and turn the initial capital from £60 to £1,500 in less than a year just from a few minutes of work a day; to produce a report for a board of directors of STEM Learning at York University when I was just 15 and it has helped me to graduate with honours from the University of York in Biochemistry. Goals can be achieved and no matter how your grades may look now, with time, hardwork and patience I will turn you into the best you can possibly be and I take great pleasure in helping your development.

My teaching methods focus on you as a person, not as scary as it sounds I promise. I basically see where your strengths and weaknesses are and how I can guide you to turn your weaknesses into strengths. I give you constant praise and reassurance, I’m very gentle with my criticisms: I tell you what you do well before I tell you what you don’t do well. I don’t just teach you I help you understand by making analogies and letting the concepts sink in and watching you as you carry out exercises. The only way for you to master something is for you to completely absorb it by actually doing it. Much of biology is memory and much of chemistry is understanding. I don’t have an average working memory so in order to remember biological concepts I often anthropromorphise biological concepts and integrate them into ideas for my books. I enlighten my students with these to help them remember. We approach a concept first; understanding it, I’ll get you to explain it to me then I’ll get you to carry out lots and lots of exercises. Then I will give you past papers to complete and we’ll see how well you do. If you do badly, don’t panic (it’s all part of the process), we’ll go back and I’ll teach you it again but differently and then we’ll do more exercises and more past papers until you ace it!
