About Alex
After more than twenty years teaching high school kids (not to mention ten years of being a dad), I can safely say that I "speak student." I value relationships and I know how to explain new and challenging ideas in ways that make sense to young people.

My favorite part about my job is that I get to introduce students to the best literature in the world. It's a pleasure to watch my students - even those who don't self identify as lovers of literature - come alive as they explore new ideas. My favorite lessons, as both a tutor and a classroom teacher, are discussion-based. But I also enjoy and appreciate the challenge of coaching students for more objective assessments like the SAT, or basic grammar or vocabulary quizzes.

I was very fortunate to have Mr. Barron as my English teacher in both my junior and senior years of high school. In these years, he prepared us for the AP Language and AP Literature tests. However, he did so much more than just give us practice tests or critique our work. Mr. Barron has a passion for English like few teachers do, one that was so easily visible in how he approached his teaching every day. In addition, he worked to establish a personal connection with each student, and as a result, we spent almost every free period in his room. His own writing ability is extremely impressive, and he would often share his writings with us. I can attest to how much he has improved my own writing, but more than this, he gave me a passion for English I lacked in the past. Whether it was a debate about a book we read in class, a group project, or a recitation of pieces of Hamlet with Mr. Barron, it was always fun. I strongly recommend Mr. Barron to anyone interested in taking their English abilities to the next level. He is beloved by all his former students and is extremely talented.
Alex was my English teacher for 3 years. He is super funny, down to earth, and relatable. Most importantly, he cares about the lives of his students outside of the classroom. After my time with Alex, I had a newfound appreciation for English thanks to the memories I made. Becoming one of Alex’s students is a decision you won’t regret, as you’ll be partnered with someone who will transform your English education in an enthusiastic way and allow you to grow as a person.
I would highly recommend Mr. Barron as a tutor. I had the privilege of having him as my AP English teacher for 2 years as well as my English teacher my freshman year of high school. A lot of my favorite memories are from his classes highlighted by his patience and understanding as a teacher as well as his humor and kindness as a friend. Mr. Barron truly is one of those teachers you can simply get along with and be comfortable talking to. I would go so far as to say he is the GOAT of all teachers I've ever had. If you choose to have Mr. Barron as your tutor you won't regret it! Not only will you learn and master the material quickly but you will gain a good mentor and true friend in the process.
Any student would be lucky to have Mr. Barron as a tutor. I had the privilege of having him as an AP English teacher for 2 years and an advisor for 3, and those moments were often highlights of my school day. Mr. Barron is a patient teacher who’s always happy to listen to students and explain concepts. What’s best about the experience is that he feels less like an instructor, and more like someone willing to engage with you and help navigate through tough passages, vocabulary, reasoning, etc. A fun moment I remember with Mr. Barron is doing our tier rankings of the books we’d read over the years in our last class together. It was a culmination of all we’d learned from the books, and an exciting way to review. Dude’s a fun guy and definitely cares about the students he works with!
Mr. Barron taught me English for two years. I have felt more than prepared in all three of my college English classes I took this past year. He instilled in me the reading comprehension and writing skills to thrive at the next level, and helped me to earn top marks in two national English exams. I cannot recommend him enough.
I worked with Alex for almost six years, and I can say that every student would rave about his insights in class! He is superb with one-on-one help, and he truly wants the students to succeed and find their way beyond the classroom. He works well with students of all levels and backgrounds. On top of that, he's personable and has a great sense of humor that provides a welcoming environment for new students. I cannot recommend Alex enough as an English tutor!
Mr. Barron is great! I loved having him as my English teacher for three of my four high school years. He makes sure that you understand all concepts and never makes you feel behind. He’s funny, supportive, and a great communicator. I absolutely recommend him as your English tutor!
Mr. Barron was one of the most important teachers I ever had in high school. He made learning Shakespeare fun and had an enormous impact on my love of reading. I probably would not love reading as much as I do now if it were not for him. He is also very worldly and cultured, and he introduced me to a lot of great music and film. He is highly intelligent, personable, and someone I would highly recommend as a teacher.
He was always easy to talk to, making class feel like a real conversation rather than a rigid "discussion," thus making English not only more enjoyable but also allowing us to retain information and understand nuanced subjects more easily.
