About Ellen
I was an honors graduate of Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. In the Atlantic Monthly's University Writing Contest, I won awards for Literary Analysis and Short Story Writing. After graduation, I taught secondary level English, Spanish, ESL, and French. My students made especially strong progress in English and Spanish grammar and writing. I am a serious, but very patient instructor who cares about every student's progress .
Personally, I grew up in Maryland. My parents were both journalists. I trained and showed Standard Poodles and Golden Retrievers. I love animals.
After teaching 10 years, I went to law school at KU. When I retired, I was an Assistant District Attorney in Lawrence, KS.
I miss working, especially teaching.

If you are a student, I'll need you to provide me copies of the text books and other material related to the area where you want tutoring. It could also help if I could talk with your teacher, but this is not a requirement.
The structure of your lessons depends on your needs. Together, we can decide where to meet for tutoring. Together, we can assess where you are academically. Together, we can determine your strengths and where you to concentrate on inproving. The length of each lesson is a minimum of 50 minutes; however, I can usually offer longer sessions if you wish.
If you are a minor, I will need to share all educational needs and progress with your parent or guardian.
