About Giacomo
I am interested in tutoring and helping people to understand and learn statistics topics, concepts and formula.
I am a statistician/biostatistician with eight years of professional experience. I am a highly motivated to work for Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. I like to work hard to obtain the statistical results to answer to all the types of clinical questions and research questions that require the use of statistical methods.
During the last four years I did a PhD project at University of Liverpool. The title of the project was “Multivariate Meta-Analysis Methods for Bias Reduction in Systematic Reviews’. In this research I was the first to assess the prevalence of ORB against a core set of correlated outcomes. I demonstrated the feasibility of using a MVMA approach to examine the robustness of meta-analysis results when there is high-suspicion ORB. Furthermore this was the first work to study the issue of ORB in simulated datasets of Individual Participant Data of Clinical Trials. I simulated the individual participant data (IPD) using the PROC IML tool of SAS and I used the PROC MIXED to apply a multilevel model to the data that I simulated.
I worked for Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostic for three years. My competences were to do a counselling work within Research Serology and Quantitative Biology as a third party employee. I was extraordinarily passionate and dedicated at his work. I demonstrated a surprising and constant dedication to the projects I was assigned, always going the extra mile when requested by mission critical tasks. In this role I provided key contributions in a number of strategic areas including: establishing and analysing surrogates for correlates of protection in the analysis of investigational vaccines population sampling for vaccine strain coverage lot stability and comparability, comparison of different formulations, design and analysis of immunogenicity studies in animal models; characterization of bio- and immuno-assays. I did all this work using R-GUI.
While I was doing my Bachelor’s Degree I applied the concepts of Survival analysis that I learnt during the course of Survival analysis of my course of studies to a real case scenario. The goal was to perform a preliminary analysis of survival data (Using Kaplan-Meyer Survival Curves) for a sample of eighty-six patients with 112 small (≤3-cm-diameter) HCCs underwent RF ablation (42 patients within the 52 patients with cancer) or percutaneous ethanol injection (44 patients within the 60 patients with cancer). To do this analysis I used SPSS.
I am an excellent team player, naturally well integrated in a matrix structure. I give my best on real-world problems that require the right combination of analytical skills and hard hands-on work.
