About Mukarrama

I have been giving tutoring lessons since 2015 (when I was in high school) to struggling students who needed a bit of boost as well as students who wanted to advance and excel in maths. I am currently tutoring 10 students from Yr 7-10. I tutor my own sister who is currently doing maths two grades higher than her own. I pride myself in recognizing my students' strengths and weaknesses, having taught children of ESL or simply not as fluent in English. I am able to convey the concepts using simpler concepts, analogies or very simple English. I know how to pace my tutoring to match my student's abilities.

About the lesson

Math has been my favourite subject throughout school however not without the realization that it is quite a challenging subject. It is important for students to seek out help to either to improve their grades at school in a subject like this or to excel in it possibly knowing they will go into a field that is heavily reliant on maths. I am a Medicine student at University of Western Australia. And as much as math has been my favourite, I love tutoring, seeking out students to tutor as early as when I was in high school.

One of my principle styles is to promote a friendly environment for my students so they are not intimidated by the content or a very common preconceived idea of lack of one's mathematical abilities. I make sure my students feel they have the liberty of asking questions as many times as needed for the sake for clarity. From my part, that includes careful listening to identify what the student finds problematic. I personally love tutoring because the sense of fulfillment & accomplishment it brings. It would be a pleasure for me to tutor any willing, enthusiastic student.

My tutoring method is fairly flexible. It depends on what the student wishes to do: either bring up grades at school or excel beyond his/her levels.
But generally, it involves:
1) introducing the new terminologies and concepts at a rudimentary level using the his/her own prior knowledge
2) doing few sample questions for the student showcasing all the concepts
3) practising other questions with the students to ensure they understood and to pick up mistakes/misunderstandings and areas of weaknesses
4) summarising each question and concept covered

If necessary, I also quite happy to answer questions by text or emails outside of lessons.

Details

- I am available weekdays and weekends but weekends are preferable
- My base rate is $35/hr (at my house) and $5/hr for travel (to student's house/public library)
- package: 5hrs -> discount: $10
- package: 10hrs -> discount: $30
- I also tutor group of 4 & 5 in for 2hrs or more at a time in which case the rates are: $25/2hrs and $20/2hrs repectively
