About Leap

Hi! I'm Leap, a math tutor with 5+ years of experience and entering my third year in Health Information Science at UVic. I started by helping younger students and classmates in high school across various curriculums: IB, AP, IGCSE, O-levels, and A-levels. I also tutored my younger brothers, who are both on the autism spectrum, which helped strengthen my empathy, patience, and ability to adapt lessons to different learning styles. Currently, I tutor a student in the IB program who improved from “developing” to “proficient” in all her math criteria in under a year. Everyone I’ve worked with has seen meaningful growth in both grades and confidence, and many have told me they actually enjoy math now! Whether you’re building foundational skills or aiming for top grades, I’d love to help make math more enjoyable and accessible for you.

About the lesson

I offer 1-on-1 online tutoring for high school math and 100-level university math, tailored to:

**Whether you’re working on the foundations or prepping for university, I’m here to help you build real understanding, not just memorize steps. I specialize in high school math and curriculum like Pre-calculus, IB, AP, IGCSE, and A-levels, but I’m also happy to work with younger grades and university students in 100-level math or students needing general homework help. Just ask!

More generally, I can help you with:

- Algebra, Pre-calculus, Calculus
- Statistics, Trigonometry, Functions
- Curriculum-specific coaching (IB, AP, IGCSE, O- and A-Levels)
- Other advanced or foundational topics — feel free to reach out!

How we’ll work together:

- We’ll meet online via Google Meet or Zoom, using a shared whiteboard or virtual notebook.
- I’ll guide you through concepts step-by-step, helping you understand why things work so you can build lasting confidence—not just cram for the next test. (of course if cramming is what you need during time constraints, we can adapt to that as well)
- I’ll give you practice questions that reinforce what we’ve covered, and I’ll be there to support you as you work through them.
- Scheduling is flexible, so you can book sessions around your busy life without a fixed weekly commitment.

My goal is for you to feel capable and calm walking into any math test, even when I’m not there.

I’d definitely recommend Leap as a tutor. She worked with my younger brother for around 7 months in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and I’m really happy with how supportive and patient she was the whole time. He’s always hated maths, so it’s been great seeing her not give up on him and actually try to make the sessions fun and engaging. I could tell she really cared about helping him improve, and she put in the effort to find ways that worked for him. Honestly, she made a big difference.

Back in high school, I had a hard time understanding math and needed someone to help me through it, that’s when leap stepped in. She was very patient, explained things clearly, and would always find ways to solve harder problems easier. The thing that stood out the most was how encouraging she was. Even when she took the time to go through problems over and over again, she never made me feel bad for not getting it the first few times.
This made it easier for me to understand, participate and learn.

- I offer a free 60-minute session as an intro consultation, to understand the details of your situation and to agree on a goal and plan accordingly. If we have time, I can also help you out with a math question/problem in case you want to get a quick idea of how I explain concepts.

- My rate is from $30/hour for K-12 grade level math and 100-level university math (Calculus and Statistics).
