About Mariah

Tutoring has been a way of life for as long as I can remember. Teaching one of my family members with high functioning autism/ ADHD has greatly heightened my tutoring experience. I am familiar with counseling students academically and personally.

Since my stay at USC, I have participated in the Joint Educational Program and Trojan Health Volunteers, which involves mentoring and teaching underserved populations about the importance of health services. Additionally, I am a cofounder of L.A. Merced Intermediate's afterschool tutoring program for middle-schoolers struggling with math.

I am a firm believer in the system of higher education, whole-heartedly believing and witnessing it. I try to share this love of learning with all of my students by sharing my academic narrative and plans for the future.

About the lesson

Typical lesson plans from me include a pre-tutoring meeting and prep plan. The initial meeting (free of cost) is in which I meet the student and their family, getting to know them better and what areas they are looking to improve in. I will typically send a google form in advance asking more specific questions as to their previous academic journey and how they wish to improve on a skill/grade. Then I design a prep plan customized to the student on weekly/monthly/yearly goals. From here, the tutoring begins!
