About Jiayue
Hello! My name is Jiayue, and I am a dedicated and reliable tutor currently studying at the University of Waterloo. I have a strong academic background in mathematics and economics, and I am passionate about helping students succeed by building confidence and clarity in their learning. I approach tutoring with patience, organization, and professionalism. I understand that every student learns differently, so I take the time to adapt my explanations and teaching methods to match each student’s needs and goals. Whether a student is struggling with fundamentals or aiming to improve exam performance, I focus on creating a supportive and encouraging environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. As a university student in a highly quantitative program, I bring both subject expertise and strong problem-solving skills to each lesson. I am punctual, well-prepared, and committed to helping students make steady, measurable progress. My approach as a tutor is centered on clarity, structure, and building genuine understanding. I believe that strong foundations are key to success in mathematics and economics, so I focus on explaining concepts step by step before moving into problem-solving. I adapt my teaching style to each student’s learning pace and encourage questions to ensure they fully understand the material rather than memorizing formulas.
A typical lesson begins with a brief review of key concepts or homework questions, followed by a clear explanation of new material using examples. We then work through practice problems together, gradually increasing difficulty. I place strong emphasis on exam-style questions and common mistakes, and I conclude each session with a short summary and suggested practice to reinforce learning.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my strong academic background and my ability to explain complex ideas in a simple, intuitive way. As a University of Waterloo student with a strong quantitative focus, I understand both the theoretical reasoning and the practical problem-solving techniques required for high academic performance. I am patient, organized, and results-oriented, helping students gain confidence alongside improved grades.
My lessons are suitable for Grade 9–12 students studying mathematics or economics, including academic, applied, and exam-focused courses.
