About Junseok

Hi! I’m Junseok, a 3rd-year Honors Computational Mathematics student at the University of Waterloo. While this may be my first time formally tutoring, I am fully confident in my ability to teach students and guide them to a complete understanding of mathematics. My major constantly requires me to break down complex rules into simple, visual steps—a skill I bring directly to my teaching.

I am fully bilingual in English and Korean, and I know firsthand that mathematics can sometimes feel like an entirely foreign language. My ultimate goal is to translate those intimidating concepts into ideas that finally click for you. I am dedicated to providing a professional, supportive space where you feel comfortable making mistakes and growing from them. I look forward to working with you and helping you build lasting academic confidence!

Hello! I am Junseok, a Computational Mathematics student at the University of Waterloo. I specialize in tutoring mathematics for middle school, high school, and early university students, focusing on subjects ranging from Algebra and Geometry to Pre-Calculus and Statistics.

My Teaching Methodology
My academic background in advanced mathematics and data analysis has taught me that math is never just about blindly memorizing formulas. It is about understanding the underlying systems. My goal as a tutor is to help students become able to understand problem-solving process. Instead of just giving you the answers, I break down complex, high-level concepts into simple, visual steps. I focus heavily on the "why" behind the math, reducing cognitive load and frustration so that you can build genuine, long-lasting confidence.

What Sets Me Apart
I am fully bilingual and comfortably offer lessons in both English and Korean. Whether you are an ESL student, a parent who prefers updates in Korean, or a student who just wants concepts explained in your native language to grasp them faster, I can adapt to your needs. Furthermore, my approach is highly analytical; I treat mistakes as valuable data to pinpoint exactly where the foundational disconnect happened, not as failures.

A Typical Lesson Plan
My sessions are structured yet highly adaptable to your learning pace:

Diagnostic Review (10 mins): We start by reviewing recent homework or a previous test to identify exactly where you feel stuck.

Concept Modeling (20 mins): Using digital whiteboards and visual aids, I introduce the core concept. I use the "I do, We do, You do" framework.

Guided Practice & Teach-Back (25 mins): We work through problems together. To verify your understanding, I will ask you to teach the final concept back to me.

Wrap-up & Strategy (5 mins): We summarize the key takeaways and outline what to focus on before our next session.

Whether you are trying to catch up on fundamentals or looking to stay ahead of the curve, I am here to guide you step-by-step. Let's work together to make math make sense!
