About Hshmat

Hi! I’m Hshmat, a passionate and approachable tutor with years of experience helping students succeed in math and physics. I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree in AI and robotics at the University of Toronto, achieving a 4.0 GPA. I have previously completed my undergraduate degree in the Engineering Science program at UofT, with a 4.0 GPA. Before that, I graduated from high school with a 100% average in grade 12, and was featured on several news outlets for it! I have worked as a TA for courses like Calculus I and Probability & Statistics. I also mentored first-year students through UofT’s NSight program and led academic support initiatives back in high school. I take pride in being patient, reliable, and always focused on helping students reach their goals with confidence.

About the lesson

As a tutor, my approach focuses on building both confidence and deep understanding in students. I aim to make math and physics intuitive by breaking down complex ideas into simple, relatable concepts. I prioritize a conversational and problem-based style, encouraging students to think out loud, ask questions freely, and develop analytical thinking. A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in to review past material or clarify homework problems. From there, we move into concept explanations with examples, followed by active problem-solving where students take the lead while I guide and support. I often use visual aids or real-life analogies to make abstract ideas stick. What sets me apart is my experience across multiple teaching roles—from TAing first-year university courses like Calculus I and Probability & Statistics, to mentoring first-year undergraduates through UofT’s NSight program. Back in high school, I was actively involved in tutoring through TutorMePlease program and served as president of my high school's mentorship program, helping younger students navigate academics and planning. These roles taught me how to adapt my teaching style to different learning levels and create a supportive, motivating environment for students. My lessons are best suited for Grade 9–12 students and first-year university students looking to strengthen their skills in math, calculus, physics, and problem-solving. Whether you're trying to catch up, stay ahead, or aim for top grades, I can help you get there.
