About David
With 2 years of experience tutoring students in a range of subjects (math, science, music (piano performance and music theory)), I am passionate about all things math- and science-related, and I actively seek to share the joy of understanding mathematics and solving problems with others. I believe that the most profound and enduring learning occurs when students are given the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of new concepts, and are guided to arrive at conclusions and realizations themselves through logic and reasoning. As a tutor, I seek to guide students to help them reach their best potentials, as we embark on the journey of uncovering the incredible beauty of mathematics. In my spare time, I enjoy biking, upgrading/repairing and selling computers, playing chess and reading. I also play the piano (I have a Level 6 diploma (LTCL) in piano performance from Trinity College London) and can teach classical piano up to Grade 10 RCM.

I believe that students perform at their best when given the opportunity to develop deep-level understanding of the subject matter rather than when relying solely on rote learning and extensive memorization, as the former eases the application of knowledge and concepts in unfamiliar questions and contexts. As someone who enjoys solving problems in different ways, I utilize a creative approach in my explanations, and I can help students engage with and visualize new concepts from a number of different perspectives. Having completed the rigorous IB Analysis and Approaches Higher Level math course as well as the University of Toronto MAT137 course (Calculus with Proofs) with a 4.0, I can also provide valuable problem-solving strategies and tips that will help you perform at your best in your next exam. As part of my extensive tutoring experience, I have: -Provided support to middle-school students as a Peer Support Group Leader -Given weekly one-on-one homework support to middle school students during my penultimate year of high school. -Taught one-on-one piano lessons to students in two music schools in the GTA. I am able to tutor/provide assistance in the following subject areas: - Mathematics (up to (and including) high school: algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, univariate calculus) - Physics (up to (and including) high school level: kinematics, electricity and magnetism, energy transformation, oscillations and wave phenomenon, introductory atomic and nuclear physics, thermal physics) - Chemistry (up to (and including) high school: balancing/writing chemical equations, understanding and using the periodic table, acid-base reactions, introductory organic chemistry, enthalpy change calculations, etc...) - Piano (up to RCM grade 10) If you are interested in getting tutoring in math/physics/ and would like to chat more, feel free to drop me a message below:
