About Alex
I have tutoring for a while, mainly informally where my students consisted of friends and children in my neighborhood; this was for both academic subjects and for chess. I also tutored some modules in university including calculus and operational amplifier design. My formal experience comes from working at Master Maths where I one of two tutors for a group of 15 students and I was concurrently working as a chess coach at Hatfield Christian College.
I graduated as the top learner at my school in matric and I am currently studying Engineering which has helped make my tutoring style become more application oriented.
I have won quite a few gold, silver and medals in national events for chess and I still play whenever I can.
I simply enjoy teaching and I truly believe no knowledge should ever be wasted so whenever get the chance, I just have to share it.

I will provide lessons that have strong emphasis on application, meaning you will be able to understand how every concept I teach can be applied to the real world which will help you understand those concepts much better. I will also provide a lot of hand picked examples and exercises from many different sources for any areas you may be struggling with; big areas like general trigonometry or smaller areas like dealing with prime exponents.
I teach only in English which is the language I am most proficient in.
A typical lesson will start with a review of homework and identifying a gap in knowledge and then theory summary of a new topic which may or may not be accompanied by a video to visually represent certain phenomena, followed by examples and then exercises and finally a 5min test to see your progress. Some homework will then be handed out.
I am typically willing to work with high school students but exceptions can be made for grade 7 students.
