About James
I am a physics student studying for an MSci at the University of Birmingham. I attended a state school and have really benefitted from good teaching in the past (eight grade 9 GCSEs and four A* at A-level) and so see the importance of good teaching and tutoring to enable students to have a great start in life. I have tutored in both maths, chemistry, and basic IT skills and really enjoy seeing how my tutees benefit. I am keen to expand this activity.

What I found works well is to work through exam and other practice questions together as this quickly identifies what students know well and areas which they could benefit from a greater understanding of. I then typically ask students to explain what they understand about these areas which allows me to help them supplement this knowledge or correct any misunderstandings. We may then work through more examples in these specific areas, so students see how to apply this new knowledge. I am happy to provide students with further questions (e.g. from my stock of past exam papers) for them to work through in between tutoring sessions if students have time which we can then talk through in the next session.
