About Alex

I'm a PhD researcher at the University of Liverpool, where I study consumer behaviour. I also work in the University of Liverpool library KnowHow team (concealed information) as a qualified writing tutor helping students from undergraduate through to doctoral level in enhancing their writing. Lastly, I am Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and qualified lecturer in Management in Marketing (previous module leader and examiner).

With my background I know exactly what good academic work looks like, and more importantly, I know how to help you get there without making the process more stressful than it needs to be. I'm not going to give you generic advice or a list of tips you could have Googled or ChatGPT'd. My sessions are practical, focused, and built around whatever you're actually stuck on. About the lesson

My sessions are tailored to where you are in your dissertation or academic writing journey — no generic advice, no one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you need help developing a research question, structuring your argument, navigating qualitative methods, or tightening up your academic writing style, we'll work through it together at your pace.

Each session starts by identifying exactly where you're stuck and what you need to move forward. From there, we'll build a clear plan so you're not just getting through the next chapter — you're developing the skills and confidence to see the whole project through.

I work mainly with business, marketing, social science, philosophy, sociology, and psychology students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and I'm comfortable supporting both home and international students. My background is in consumer behaviour research, but the skills I teach (critical thinking, research design, clear academic writing) apply across disciplines.
