About Sandy
My name is Sandy. I'm a PhD candidate (in the 2nd year of my research). I LOVE learning - but only because I have found ways to make it enjoyable for me! This is what I love about teaching - helping students to fall in love with learning. I am a mum of grown up children - which helps me understand the challenges young people face in academia. I'm a lecturer in Philosophy at a South Coast University - specifically teaching bioethics and biopolitics. My students tell me I'm 'cool' - apparently this is because I make philosophy 'relevant'. I really hope this is the case, because it is my intention.

I approach teaching holistically. What do you want to achieve? How do you best engage with learning? How can we, together, achieve the best outcome? I work with my students at the university to find ways to make learning relevant. We tend to do this by identifying their passions and interests, then tailoring their assignments to this. Students tell me that this makes them more motivated. Applied philosophy is my bag! Thinking through contemporary issues with normative philosophical and ethical theory.
