About Laura

Hi,
My name is Laura Steiner. I love history so much that I hold a Bachelor's Degree in it from Wilfrid Laurier University. I'm one of the few people who actually likes Canadian history.
My goal is to leave you with an understanding, of the events, and figures have shaped Canada in the twentieth, and early 21st century.

About the lesson

Did you know William Lyon McKenzie King was known to hold seances in order to speak to his dead mother, or deceased friends? Or that the first time Canadian soldiers ever fought together was during World War I? History can be quirky, as well as tragic and and impactful.

My lessons for high school age students would include some of the people behind the events that shaped our past. A typical lesson would include a background on the person; their achievements, and legacy, and in some cases, how they may be relevant today. My methodology would challenge students to think critically about historical figures.

I feel that what sets me apart is the passion for my subject, and an understanding that history is more than just a dull series of dates, and events.
My experience as a Freelance Journalist has given me a solid understanding of how politics works, making me a good fit for civics.
