About Lisa

Hello and Welcome!

My name is Lisa and I am a tutor in the 'All Things Canadian' category. I am here to help you improve your English language skills, whether that means improving your reading, spelling, writing or speaking skills. My intention is to do this by using 'Living in Canada' as our subject base. We'll have conversations about Canadian culture, and I'll give you short assignments which you complete and then bring back to our next class to discuss. I want to help you learn more about this wonderful country and culture, and inspire your confidence and comfort in living every day life.

I was born and raised in Ontario, but have been living in Alberta for 33 years. I am a mature person, with an abundance of life experience. As a University student, (many years ago!) I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, and that gave me much experience in doing research and writing about Canada's history as well as the history of other cultures around the world.

Reading is also one of my favourite activities and I want to pass that enjoyment onto you. I also write in my spare time and travel when I can. I currently work for the municipal government in Administration, so I have lots of experience in working in Canada in an office. We can certainly talk about what that's like, as well.

I am looking forward to meeting you and finding about you, too!

About the lesson

Let's have some fun talking and reading about life in Canada! I want to help you learn about Canada through reading books and having conversations. I am a writer, who is currently writing a memoir. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, and a lot of experience writing essays, poetry, short stories, and newsletter articles. I can give you tips on improving your literacy and speaking English. We can discuss Canadian culture (not politics, please!) and every day life, and I can give you 'home work' exercises where you do simple research by reading and writing short essays, which you will bring to the next class. This is a great way to learn and there are never any 'wrong' answers, only opportunities to improve your knowledge and skills. I am looking forward to meeting you!
