About Abdirahman

As someone who has journeyed through the education system, successfully completing GCSEs, A levels and an Undergraduate degree, I am able to understand and recognise the specific needs of learners going through these different educational stages. In addition, being a fully qualified ESL teacher with a CELTA qualification means that my competencies extend to also teaching English to students whose first language is not English. My teaching approach is geared towards the learner I am interacting with. I'm a believer that learning is a lot more than transmitting information. That is why I hope to provide lessons which not only enable students to learn the necessary theoretical knowledge of the subject area but also developing various soft skills to be used in real life environments.

About the lesson

My lessons are interactive, structured and tailored to each student’s individual needs. I aim to build both confidence and exam technique, helping students understand not only what a strong answer looks like, but how to produce one independently.

I begin by identifying each student’s strengths and areas for improvement through a free diagnostic assessment. From there, lessons are planned around the skills they need most.

Sessions may include analysing unseen texts, improving written responses, practising exam questions, exploring key quotations and themes in literature, developing creative and transactional writing, and working through examiner-style feedback.

I place particular emphasis on helping students understand how to approach questions step by step. Rather than simply giving students model answers, I encourage them to develop their own ideas and show them how to turn those ideas into clear, analytical and well-supported responses.

For GCSE English Language, we work on reading comprehension, language and structure analysis, evaluation, comparison and writing skills. For GCSE English Literature, we focus on understanding texts, analysing quotations, developing interpretations and constructing effective essays.

Lessons are friendly and encouraging while remaining focused on measurable progress. Students receive clear feedback throughout, so they understand what they are doing well and exactly what they need to improve.

I can support students across the major GCSE exam boards, with particular familiarity with AQA.
