About Robert
I've had the good fortune to study, both at Chicago, privately, and ad-hoc in New York and Boston with great philosophers. The study of philosophy has been my life quite a while and has transformed it entirely. I hope to pass that on to you. In addition to philosophy I have spent a significant amount of time studying history, classical languages, and Judaism. I have, since leaving Chicago, spent over two years in Torah study in Manhattan and Brooklyn. I am presently preparing a dissertation proposal at the intersection of phenomenology and Jewish students, and would be happy to Languages are very important to me. I've spent a very significant amount of time on Hebrew, Latin and Yiddish as well as Aramaic and Greek, and I am also proficient in French and Spanish. My approach to philosophical texts is highly informed by philology and our study together will be attentive to this dimension of philosophical study. I am happy to help people in the study of Latin and Hebrew to an intermediate level. I am also happy to instruct people in Bible, and teach beginners Judaism.

I've spent over a decade studying philosophy and have found it to be the most surefire path to clarity in thinking and in life. Problems can be thought through and one merely has to learn to think properly in order to do that on one's own.
We learn to do that by reading the great texts. I believe that philosophy is a tradition that must be received and worked through. My hope is that my students will see the unity of philosophical tradition and be able to pass it on. Most of all I would like to enable my students to themselves teach.
I prefer to start students with Plato and Aristotle, but am open to whatever is most interesting. I'm also happy to work through whatever is at hand for students presently at university. I think writing is an essential part of philosophical activity, and am happy to work on writing both for our lessons or for coursework.
