About Maia

I am a student at the University of California Berkeley majoring in Molecular Environmental Biology.

I have a 3.96 GPA at UC Berkeley receiving A's in college-level mathematics, chemistry, and biology. I received a 5 in AP Environmental Science, a 5 in AP Chemistry and scored a perfect 800 on the biology subject test

I have tutored since high school through online sites as well as independently for kids in the neighborhood and have been a peer tutor through the University of California for over a year

About the lesson

I think learning must be approached as a partnership in which the student and tutor work as one to learn new material through creative experimentation in order to find methods that work best. I will work with you to find study strategies that work, resources that aid in learning, and set up plans for long-term progress.

A typical lesson will start with a baseline assessment of where the student is at in terms of their knowledge of the subject. I will ask guiding questions about their class and materials in order to get an understanding of where one is at.

Nest typically we would dive into the heart of the lesson, in which depending on where the student is at we may review concepts, go through practice problems, dissect errors, or create flowcharts. This is where most of our time is spent on, where the student can actively engage in a back-and-forth that helps them learn skills and build confidence in their knowledge.

Finally, to close out we will make a plan of action for after the tutoring session. Depending if we have another session soon or if this was just a one-time help, I will sit down in the last 5 ish minutes of the session and break down some study strategies or provide resources that may be helpful for your continued studying.
