About James
The reason I want to teach is because I enjoy seeing a person find confidence with something they want to do, and learn to see that they can do things they may have thought in the past that they never could do.

My approach to tutoring is to try and build confidence with the subject and try and relate it to things in real life that are either more interesting or relatable than just symbols on a page/screen.
I've had my own difficulties with confidence with academics and 'maths fear' so my approach is to always go at my students' levels. At the same time, I try and help them see that while it's not ever going to be like doing our favourite thing, it can become fun to sit down and tackle a problem once and each hurdle you overcome will give you more confidence.
Maths and computing are hard but they are some of the best and most rewarding things to learn how to have fun with. Just like any hobby or dream you will have in life - it will be hard at points. Resilience to those ups and downs is what life is all about and I aim to help you with those skills to provide a mindset for achieving the things you want to achieve, whilst not forgetting to have fun along the way. If you're thinking I could never have fun with maths or computing but I want to learn about them then you are already showing the kind of discipline and determination that will take you far, high and wide in life.
