About Sebastian

Hi there! My name is Sebastian, and I am currently an undergraduate at the University of Bath studying Chemical Engineering. I love chemical engineering because it allows me to apply interdisciplinary knowledge from subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, and even economics to solve real-world problems.

I completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma, with Higher Levels in Chemistry, Economics, and Physics, and Standard Levels in Maths AA, English Literature, and French B.

I have studied in multiple different education systems - including GCSEs, the Swedish system and the International Baccalaureate - where I have experienced various different teaching methods. This has helped me to develop a flexible approach to tutoring, allowing me to adapt to the students' needs and explaining concepts in multiple ways. I have also been tutoring for over two years, helping students achieve and exceed their target grades across GCSE, A-level, and IB subjects. Additionally, I have volunteered at homework clubs helping pupils with special education needs, developing my ability to explain concepts in a patient manner. This opportunity further developed my teaching abilities ensuring that I can help the student to the best of my ability.

About the lesson

My sessions are structured, goal-oriented, and tailored to each student. In the first lesson, I assess the student’s current level, identify key gaps, and set clear academic goals (e.g. target grades or exam performance). From there, I create a focused plan covering core concepts, exam technique, and regular practice.

Each session typically follows three stages:

Concept clarity – breaking down difficult topics into simple, intuitive explanationsGuided practice – working through exam-style questions togetherIndependent application – ensuring the student can confidently solve problems alone

I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, as this is often the difference between good and top grades. I also provide targeted homework and revision strategies to reinforce learning between sessions.

Progress is measured through regular mini-assessments, past paper questions, and tracking improvements in accuracy, confidence, and speed. I also adapt sessions continuously based on performance.

I believe the most important part of learning is building confidence and understanding, not just memorisation. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and ultimately becoming independent learners.
