I have been fortunate to know and collaborate with Julian over many years in the film industry. He is an extremely talented and experienced producer and director across many genres, but it is his skill as a screenwriter that I think is exceptional. His scripts are engaging, inventive and original, often funny, with brilliant characterisation and masterly plotting.

As a tutor he can offer not only his own expertise, but an encyclopaedic knowledge of film, an analytical eye and an ability to provide a discerning and helpful overview. He understands the mechanics of scriptwriting, and can interpret the theory to his students in an intelligible way, as well as offering practical advice to resolve issues in an existing script.

Julian Darley is a wonderful tutor. He is clear in his instruction and analysis and sets out a simple and flexible structure to help develop ideas and techniques. He cuts through all the complicated theory from books and helps with the practicality of getting ideas down on paper.
