About Bessie

Hi! My name is Bessie. I live on the south coast of NSW with my dog Frank. We love to get outside, go surfing, and explore the world.
I’m currently studying Psychological Science at the University of Wollongong after completing two years of Marine Science. I’m incredibly passionate about psychology, particularly how we learn, what motivates us, and why traditional approaches to education work well for some students but not for others.
I strongly believe that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to succeed in an education system that doesn’t always cater to the different ways people think and learn. I don’t believe that struggling with a subject means you can’t do well. Instead, it's about finding the right tools and strategies that work for you.
My goal as your tutor is not only to help you achieve a higher mark but assist in the confidence and skills required to get there, so you can use these further into your education.

About the lesson

Through my own university studies, I have developed a strong understanding of the psychology behind learning, memory, and motivation. I apply this knowledge to my classes, utilizing evidence-based study techniques to help other students learn more effectively. My lessons are largely goal-driven, so I encourage students to come with an idea of what they would like to achieve, and we can work towards those goals together.
I am currently studying Marine Science and Psychological Science, which has given me a strong background across both science and humanities subjects. Biology is a particular strength of mine, and I achieved high marks in VCE Biology. I also placed at the top of my class in VCE English, so I am confident helping students with writing, essay structure, comprehension, and communicating ideas clearly.
I place a high importance on the belief that there is no singular way of learning that works for everyone. I work to adapt my lessons to each student’s individual strengths, goals, and challenges. If you already know what works for you, I would love to hear about it. If not, that is completely fine, we can explore different techniques together and find what works for you.
Lesson lengths are flexible and I am happy to work around your needs and schedule. I look forward to hearing from you!
