About Isabelle

Hi, my name's Isabelle and I'm a second year Liberal Arts student at the University of Warwick. After previous experience being a tutor and a mentor, I am committed to helping and guiding students with their education and making them see the fun side to school too! At school, I really enjoyed studying Maths. From primary school, I always joined in extra maths club and in Year 11 I attended twilight lessons to achieve a B in the Free Standing Maths Qualification which is the equivalent of an AS Level. At A Level, I achieved 4 A*s In English Literature, Religious Studies, Economics and an Extended Project Qualification and I studied Maths in Year 12. At GCSE, I achieved 9 grade 9s and 8s. My grade 9s were in Maths, English Literature, English Language and History. I feel as though I have a lot of expertise in exam technique and revision skills to help you excel and get the best grades possible for you. I was also tutored as a child to pass the 11+ (which I did and attended a grammar school) and to be pushed beyond my primary school education. Having a tutor explain topics to me in a way that made sense to me made the subject so much more engaging and enjoyable. The friends that I have tutored were successful in their 11+ exams and now attend various grammar schools and my friends that I tutored for GCSE Maths were able to boost their grades from a 5 to an 8 as a result of my exam technique advice.

About the lesson

Each lesson will have a focus for that week on something the student specifically needs to work on. For example, if this is to concentrate on solving simultaneous equations, then we will break down how to approach such a question and then practise different questions over and over again until the student understands and excels. I will always get the student to explain to me what they are doing and how they would approach a question to ensure that they understand. This will also be incorporated into exercises that concentrate on the skills learnt from last week. That way, the student is building a toolbox of tools that they can combine together to develop.
A typical lesson structure is starting by going over key subjects learnt from last week and then focusing on something new for the current week. At GCSE level, we will look at past practise papers that I will ask the student to do during the week and go through it together in the lesson and thus go over questions that they do not get correct until they understand how to do it.
I have tutored maths to family friends to help them pass the 11+ and SATS and I have also tutored at GCSE level and I have experience teaching basic maths skills with young students in a primary school. My lessons can therefore range between young primary school age, 11+, Years 7-9, GCSE.
I have great experience teaching young children, however, I am also very knowledgeable on the best methods of gaining A*s in Maths at GCSE level and have lots of tips and tricks to help improve grades.
