About Leydn
I'm an undergraduate student at Amherst College living in Berkeley. I study English with a concentration in creative writing and I'm currently working on an original collection of poetry and essays tracing the Korean diaspora. I have received prestigious awards, including the MacArthur-Leithauser Poetry Award, presented by Amherst College as part of an endowment from the MacArthur Foundation and the poet, Brad Leithauser; the Five College Poetry and Prose Award, which recognizes excellence among the five-college consortium. Additionally, I was honored to be selected as a semi-finalist for the Fulbright Program. I aim to bring my passion for storytelling into my tutoring sessions. I'm dedicated to helping students work through academic writing-related assignments, such as humanities or college application essays, by fostering curiosity and creating a supportive environment where each student feels confident and excited about their learning journey.

I believe the best approach to learning is through curiosity and connection. In our sessions, I will want to first learn about each student, starting with their hobbies, interests, and learning style. By getting to know what excites and motivates them, I can tailor lessons to ensure they feel engaged and inspired. I want each student to feel a connection to their work. Rather than simply completing assignments, my goal is to help find purpose behind what they are learning (to ask the big why and for what?). When they leave each session, I want them to feel as though they've created something meaningful. I welcome all ages, including high schoolers who need essay revision help!
